- Folk
I grew up in a musical family and was exposed to a variety of genres of music, from classical to Sousa marches to folk and rock and blues and country. I played with a number of bands in a variety of settings in Manila, mostly folk houses and bars. Now I'm just doing a solo gig doing covers of my favorite songs.
Never had the chance to do any busking but now that I have a battery operated busking amp...... HMMMMMM!!!
Our band was performing 8 nights a week at one time. 7 nights at a folkhouse (My Father's Moustache) and every Thursday at another folkhouse (Hobbit House) down the street. We managed our Thursdays by playing one set at MFM, rushing to HH and playing 2 sets there then rushing back to MFM to finish the night.
One Thursday, We got to HH for our set after playing at MFM, tuned up then hit the stage and realized after we hit the first chord live on stage, that we had all tuned to ourselves and not to each other. Being "professionals" (LOL) we tried to tune to each other while playing the song, each one thinking all the rest of the band was in tune except himself. We ended up just stopping and tuning to someone and continued the set.
We bought a tuner the next day.
My favorite instrument is the one that I would have in my hand at the moment.
I have an Ovation 6 string, Ovation 12 string, wooden resonator tuned to Open G, metal resonator tuned to Open D, 1991 Fender Strat, 2008 Fender Tele, 2011 Gibson Les Paul, several guitars that I've put together (except for the wiring), several keyboards that are rescues or donations, a couple of mandolins and fiddles too.
