Then, I remember the day George Jones died, April 26 2013. My introduction to him. Great singer, still love him even more now, Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes? That's how he did it.
I remember Ray Price died that year, another singing hero of mine. I heard Porter Wagoner at that time, The Rubber Room, amazing, fantastic songwriter.
I enjoy finding all kinds of new music. You never know where you may find some unusual inspiration, whether it is Jeff Buckley, Tito Puente, or Bobby Bland.
I love learning about songwriters... Life's Like Poetry, as Lefty Frizzell sang.
Mickey Newbury knew how to write a song.
One of my favorite performances I ever witnessed, when a guy came to the bus stop, in the morning, with a crowd, singing Blue Suede Shoes, but the chorus he sang was, You Gotta Roll Easy. Never heard anything like it...
Waiting for a bus, and a lady ended up telling me about The Louvin Brothers, ended up getting Charlie Louvin's book shortly after, very influential to me.
On the bus, hearing this guy tell a lady about Merle Travis. Needless to say, this was very unusual, and I ended up a serious Merle Travis fan as a result.
Don't you hate it when you forget the words to your song? Then... there's no choice but to play Louie Louie...
My favorite instrument, my Guild guitar, solid and reliable, and brown, you can't beat brown.
Violin, mandolin, harmonica, banjos.... all necessary for the Professional Hobo. As Merle Haggard said, I take a lot of pride in what I am - [Hobo Song]
Guitar has always been my first and main instrument, and I always kept playing it, ever since I started.
You can tune a banjo, but it still sounds like a banjo.
Learning violin, for the Bob Wills and Old Time tunes... likewise with Mandolin, going to play it like Ira Louvin, but won't throw it to the floor, got to have patience while tuning.
